Charles Homes, BAE Systems
Charles Homes graduated with Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Adelaide University in 1985. Charles has 25+ years engineering experience across diverse industry sectors, large and small companies, and both within Australia and overseas.
Charles’ professional career began at Austek Microsystems, a local start-up company competing on the world stage in integrated circuits. As a design engineer Charles worked on various projects including the first cochlear implant chip (bionic ear) as well as computer and signal processing chips for defence and other customers. In the 8 years at Austek Charles held various positions including the lead project roles and finally the role of Engineering Manager for the Australian business.
Charles then worked with Practel, a small company designing and manufacturing electronics for the Australian broadcast TV and radio industry. Charles held the role of Engineering Manager, as well as occasionally getting his “hands dirty” and designing new products.
In the mid 1990’s Charles joined British Aerospace Australia in the Quiktrak division working as a design engineer eventually taking the lead role in architecting the next generation of Quiktrak base-station hardware/software. Early in this period the Quiktrak project split from the parent company and became a separate private enterprise. After joining British Aerospace and spending 10 years at Quiktrak, Charles left the company to “re-join” the company now called BAE Systems.
At BAE Systems Charles has held numerous roles including Project Engineering Manager for CTRS a SATCOM project, 6 months as acting Chief Engineer EW, 10 months as acting Engineering Operations Manager for the Australian business, and his present role as Manager of the Systems Engineering Discipline for the Australian business.
