The Eight Categories of Industry Awards

  1. Gold Cup for Excellence in Engineering and Commercialisation

    This perpetual Gold Cup is our most prestigious award, given since 1984. It is awarded to a company that performs best in taking an innovative idea through the product development and manufacturing cycle and on to success in National and Global markets. Please address all of the following judging criteria:

    • Engineering innovation – comparison with competing products or other solutions examined
    • Engineering process – performance against target development cost, development schedule and product cost
    • Product quality, reliability and market feedback
    • Marketing – market size, market share and revenue to date
    • Employment creation, export income generated and benefits to South Australia
  2. Excellence in Innovation Award (Open) (prize of $10,000)

    This award will be presented to an individual or project team that in the view of the selection committee has conceived the best innovative product or service submitted and developed it to proof of concept. Consideration will be given to hardware, software and digital media innovations from companies of any size and will ensure that the achievements are judged against the relative investment made. This category is open to any size organisation. Please address all of the following judging criteria:

    • Originality of concept and elegance of design
    • Ability of concept to meet design objectives
    • Engineering Innovation - relative advantage of concept to competing products or other solutions examined
    • Engineering process - performance against target development cost, development schedule and product cost
    • Exploitation of the concept to date
  3. Export Excellence Award

    This award recognises a company that performs best in the continuous development of existing export markets and/or entry into new export markets. Please address all of the following judging criteria:

    • Growth as total value of exports in the current financial year Vs previous financial year
    • Exports as a proportion of total sales in the latest financial year
    • Development of existing markets in the latest financial year
    • Development of new export markets in the latest financial year
    Note: Total export sales are not a judging criteria, in order to enable small companies to successfully compete for this award.
  4. Service to the Electronics and/or ICT Industry Award

    This award recognises an organisation that has demonstrated a high level of service to the electronics and/or ICT industry. Eligible organisations may include Business Services, Suppliers, Universities, TAFE and other Registered Training Organisations. Please address all of the following judging criteria:

    • Type and quality of service to the Electronics and/or ICT Industry
    • Specialty and tailored customer services provided
    • Demonstrated competitiveness; value for money
    • Opportunities for joint business ventures
    • Examples of collaboration with industry to provide better outcomes and services
  5. Electronics Engineer Graduate of the Year Award (prize of $1,000)

    This award recognises engineering excellence by a graduate of an electronics and/or ICT related degree with up to 3 years industry experience. Please address all of the following judging criteria:

    • Reaching / exceeding objectives in all areas
    • Corporate Ambassador or Product Champion
    • Assimilation into corporate environment
    • Quantifiable achievements
    • Measurable impact of achievements on the electronics and/or ICT industry and/or company
    Note: If self nominating, responses to criteria should be formally endorsed by a supervisor or manager of the applicant.
  6. Support of Electronics and/or ICT Education Award

    This award recognises a company that has excelled in its active commitment to supporting Educational Institutions or the career path of Electronics and/or ICT Students. This may include involvement in the (ei)² program, career promotion to high school students or providing support to educational institutions. The award is not open to universities, TAFE or other registered training organisations. Please address all of the following judging criteria:

    • Degree of involvement with Educational Institutions and/or (ei)² Skills Programs
    • Investment or in-kind contributions relative to the size of the organisation
    • Company participation in mentoring, presentations to schools, work experience and other initiatives
    • Examples of Time / Staff / Resources / $ amount
  7. Environmental Sustainability

    This award recognises outstanding achievement by a company in adopting measures that minimise its environmental footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. Please address all of the following judging criteria:
    Principal areas that the company may have made measurable advances in:

    • Implementation of the RoHS directive and its impact
    • Lean manufacturing / thinking to reduce waste
    • Recycle programs and their results
    • Energy saving programs / Renewable energy programs and their impact
    • Greenhouse gas reduction and carbon offset initiatives
  8. TIA President's Award for Best Media Story (prize of $1,000)

    Sponsored by
    This award will be presented to an individual who has provided best media story related to the electronics and/or ICT industry. The winning story will be selected from the TIA collection of articles for the current year. Submissions are not required.

    • Judging will be conducted by the TIA President based on writing excellence, accuracy, storytelling, newsworthiness, impact and public benefit and creative angle of story

Judging

Judging will be conducted by a panel of Academic, Industry, Engineering and Business specialists, in accordance with the above criteria.

Presentation

The winners of the 2011 TIA Excellence Awards will be presented at the Annual Dinner, to be held on Friday, October 21st at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
