About (ei)²Electronics and ICT Education Initiative

The Electronics ICT Education Initiative, or (ei)², has provided industry leadership for the workforce development of the technology sectors. Established in 2005, (ei)² has developed into a highly productive business unit of the technology Industry Association, addressing the skills-related issues of the industry. (ei)² is comprised of an integrated basket of education and collaboration programs which were designed in conjunction with the electronics industry, universities and TAFE.

At present (ei)² is one of the two industry initiatives in place that supplies information to secondary school teachers, career counsellors and students regarding opportunities within the electronics industry in South Australia. The professional development of teachers and improved access of teachers to resources, industry contacts and projects are important objectives of (ei)² and the NAMIG initiative. The benefits of closer ties with industry has enabled delivery of specific training plans. Moreover, the (ei)² program is consistent with the overall objective stipulated in the Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS) Strategic Direction for Science and Mathematics 2003-2006 report. The strategy stresses the need to attract and retain high quality teachers of science and mathematics and build partnerships with the wider community. Tertiary institutions also provide information to students on the opportunities available within the electronics industry through their own mechanisms and directly or indirectly through (ei)². Tertiary institutions are informed about the industry needs through inter alia their respective Industry Advisory Boards, liaison and association of academic staff with the industry in various capacities, university and TAFE open days, and direct liaison by companies with the universities/TAFE on their skill requirements.

(ei)² is managed by Skills and Workforce Manager Andrea. You can become part of the (ei)² program today.
