Schools get $12m for computer support

The South Australian Government says it will spend $12 million to hire computer support staff for schools.

The Industrial Relations Commission had recommended extra funding for computer support.

SA Education Minister Jay Weatherill says principals had told him information technology issues were taking up too much of their time and resources.

He says the funding will pay for the equivalent of 120 full-time support staff.

"It will be allocated across a range of schools. [For] some very small schools it will mean a day a week support, for some larger schools it will be a full-time equivalent," he said.

"It will be spread across our schooling system and it will be working in conjunction with the existing resources we have for teachers and students."
