Manufacturing
Manufacturing is an integral part of the Australian economy. As of the December quarter 2012, the manufacturing industry employed approximately 972,200 people. In 2011-12, it contributed approximately $107 billion to the economy. Manufacturing is also central to innovation, accounting for over one quarter of all Business Expenditure in R&D in 2010-11, representing around $4.8 billion invested in research and development. One of the pillars of South Australia’s economy has been traditional manufacturing. Manufacturing is a critical component of any advanced econonomy.
